Dil mein ik lehr si uthi hai abhi
Koi taaza hawa chali hai abhi
Complete GHAZAL with English Translation, Roman Urdu & Tashreeh
Composed in a gentle short meter (chhoti behr), this exquisite ghazal by Nasir Kazmi embodies the subtlety and musical purity that revived classical Urdu lyricism in the mid-20th century.
Dil mein ik lehr si uthi hai abhi
Koi taaza hawa chali hai abhi
Shor barpa hai khana-e-dil mein
Koi deewar si giri hai abhi
Bhari duniya mein jee nahin lagta
Jaane kis cheez ki kami hai abhi
Tu shareek-e-sukhan nahin na sahi
Teri khushbu se dil lagi hai abhi
Kuch to hai jis se jee dhadakta hai
Koi umeed jaagti hai abhi
Shaam ki surkh chaadaron mein lipat
Chaandni chhat pe aa gayi hai abhi
Waqt achha bhi aayega Nasir
Gham na kar zindagi padi hai abhi

A sudden wave has risen in the heart right now; A refreshing, gentle breeze has begun to stir right now. A great commotion echoes in the chamber of the heart; As if some ancient wall has crumbled down right now. My soul finds no peace in this bustling, crowded world; Who knows what intangible presence is missing right now? Even if you are not here conversing with me, let it be; My heart is still intoxicated by your lingering fragrance right now. There is still something within that makes the heart flutter; Some quiet spark of hope is awakening right now. Wrapped in the crimson veils of evening, The moonlight has stepped onto the rooftop right now. Better days will surely arrive, O Nasir; Do not grieve, a whole lifetime still remains right now!
