احمد فراز 12 جنوری 1931ء کو کوہاٹ میں پیدا ہوئے۔ انہوں نے پشاور یونیورسٹی سے اردو اور فارسی میں ماسٹرز کیا۔ فراز کو فیض کے بعد اردو کا سب سے بڑا رومانوی اور عوامی شاعر مانا جاتا ہے۔ ان کی غزلوں کی سلاست، روانی اور دلنشینی نے انہیں برصغیر کے ہر خاص و عام میں بے حد مقبول بنا دیا۔ جنرل ضیاء الحق کے دورِ آمریت میں انہوں نے بے خوفی سے مزاحمتی شاعری کی جس کی پاداش میں انہیں قید و بند اور جلاوطنی کا سامنا کرنا پڑا۔ 25 اگست 2008ء کو اسلام آباد میں وفات پائی۔
